HMCA

Our mission is to preserve the Hmong culture by providing for the younger generations, classes and materials to preform cultural customs that have been passed on from ancestors. Hmong people have always been a people of oral tradition, with little or no written history; with the old ways disapearing with each passing generation, our organization is here to help pass on what we know.

 

Montana Hmong Culture and Arts (MHCA) is a nonprofit organization founded by Hmong elders in the Missoula community, carried on with the help and support of young leaders. MHCA offers classes and research for young men and women to learn about Hmong history and customs; then to take what they learn and practice it in actual ceremonies that occur in Missoula and surrounding area.

MHCA also hosts the Annual Missoula Hmong New Year Celebration in association with a nominated leader in the community each year in order to showcase the culture as well as celebrate the annual time of rest for the community.

 

The corporation’s specific purpose are include:

  1. Preserving the traditional culture, arts and history of the Hmong people as it relates to marriage, funeral and other traditions.
  2. Providing education programming and services to support Hmong traditional culture, arts and history.
  3. Act as a communications center or umbrella to reach out and assist in any and all respects as necessary within the Hmong community as well as local government.  Maintain open communications whenever possible on any and all shared cases in order to improve services to Hmong clients as well as to maintain the system of traditional holistic healing services and ritual performances.
